Each year Sue Ryder Home in Bydgoszcz provides care to an average of over 5000 people from Bydgoszcz and the region around it. In 2008 our Home Care Team provided care to 1057 patients, and the Home Respiratory Treatment Team to 213 patients from 13 voivodeships. 355 patients were hospitalized in the Palliative Care Ward, and the Psychogeriatric Outpatient Clinic gave medical advice in 1631 cases and psychological advice in 1139.
Apart from the Team’s therapeutic and diagnostic activity, an ambitious educational program is being developed within the Polish School of Palliative Medicine. It is evidenced by numerous training courses for doctors, nurses, volunteers and managerial staff, as well as training periods for trainees from Poland and other European countries. The Sue Ryder Home as the only centre in the region has obtained accreditation from the Ministry of Health for specializing in palliative medicine.
Our Home promotes the idea of palliative care and informs the local community about its availability in the region. A lot of informative and promoting campaigns are being conducted. One of the examples is the charity concert “Voices for Hospice”, which our Sue Ryder Home co-organizes. It has been taking place in the Pomorska Philharmonic Hall every year since 1999.
Our Centre is also the initiator and organizer of the monthly support meetings for families and relatives who are in grief after the death of their family members who were patients of the Sue Ryder Home.
Having in mind our patients’ good and their expectations and requirements, the Sue Ryder Home provides services of the best quality. Thus, the aim of the centre is to assure quality standards for caring for the patient. They are the standards which help in creating optimal living conditions for the patients and their caregivers , as well as optimizing working conditions for the Sue Ryder Home staff.
